Mission

To support and promote self-care for all by providing a safe, non-judgemental, body-positive, relaxing space and time to nurture and energise individuals through the healing touch of holistic massage.

About Me

I was a secondary school teacher for nine years before moving into university teaching ten years ago. After a lot of thinking and soul searching during the pandemic and experiencing a lot of stress myself at work, I decided that I wanted to make a complete change and work in the therapeutic field. Massage was particularly appealing for me, as I am someone who has always benefitted from this therapy but also as an important way for me to get back in touch with the body, as we can all spend a lot of time ‘in our heads’. I have experienced the positive effects from osteopathy and massage throughout my adult life and I know the benefits that massage can bring, particularly in relation to stress. In January 2022, I qualified in Holistic Massage. For me, this has been a significant change but one that I am so pleased to have made, and I am so excited about starting my new career!

I still work in education part time and have a particular interest in supporting teachers in stress reduction in their workplace.

Benefits of Holistic Massage

Massage has been used for relaxation and rehabilitation for thousands of years across the world. Holistic massage looks at the person as a whole and considers their lifestyle, medical history, specific needs, environmental factors, as well as their physical state to provide a bespoke and tailored treatment for that individual. A skilled holistic massage therapist aims to work with their client to improve their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Massage has many benefits, which range from the physiological to the psychological.

Stress and anxiety are common problems for many people. Living with chronic or acute stress means that our body is frequently in the ‘flight or fight’ mode, also known as the sympathetic state. This state triggers a range of physiological responses in the body, which can contribute to common problems such as increased blood pressure and digestive conditions, such as IBS. Massage can help move the client from that stress state to one of relaxation, which supports the body to rest, restore and repair. Through touch, massage applies pressure to the muscle tissue thereby increasing blood flow, reducing pain caused by muscle tension, supporting relaxation and raising parasympathetic activity in the body (reducing blood pressure, minimising heart rate and releasing hormones which support relaxation).

Holistic massage aims to support the client to heal their mind and body by promoting a positive state of health and wellbeing.
